THE
BEGINNING
Um
yeah, so what is this site about? Pretty much
anything I want it to be about until that idiot
in the White House takes this right away from
me too. Please browse around and feel free to
gimme some feedback...the good, the bad, and the
ugly!

Wow! Do I suck or what? It's been about two years since I've updated futchyou.com. I wish I had a lot of cool shows to list here but the truth is that I haven't been to a show since 2006. How lame is that? I have no excuse other than pure laziness and a helluva two-year bout of darkness. But whatever, maybe I'm back now.

Ok,
so it's been a year and 1/2 since I last posted
this rock n' roll stuff but hey, sometimes you
have to take a break, right? The bands I've seen
during my sabbatical include Nine
Inch Nails (yes, again!) and Queens
of the Stone Age (Joshua Homme is probably
the best songwriter gracing the stages of rock
today); the Yeah
Yeah Yeahs (Karen O is a goddess!); Garbage
(holy shite Shirley! talk about goddesses!) and
the Eels
(E has stolen my heart). Other than a few local
bands and other acts I can't recall at the moment,
that was about it. One thing I will say is that
if I had to pick 10 bands to see live, these guys
would definitely be in the countdown. 2 bands
I truly regret not seeing, however, are the Dresden
Dolls and the Mountain
Goats. Ugh! I have no one to blame but myself...bleah.

Just
when you think rock music can't surprise you anymore,
you see the Eels
live supporting the new album, "Blinking
Lights and Other Revelations." Holy shite!
E decided to do something a little quirky and
man 'o man, did we get a treat! The show was something
sort of MTV unplugged only some things were plugged
in, but not many. E entertained us for about two
hours, backed up by Chet, playing just about every
instrument known to mankind (including a saw),
Big Al on the standup bass and other instruments
as necessary, three violinists, and a cellist
who also provided some percussion along the way.
They played a wonderful mix of stuff off the new
album and older goodies, with E providing well-time
dry humor between songs. Admittedly, as a drummer,
I was a little disappointed when the curtain unveiled
a drumless stage, but E and the gang won me over
quickly.
Very
cool "newer" albums I've listened to
lately: Greenday:
American
Idiot; The Black Eyed Peas: Elephunk;
Eels: Blinking
Lights and Other Revelations; Velvet Revolver:
Contraband;
Queens of the Stone Age: Lullabies
to Paralyze

So
Chris and I went to Philly to see Nine
Inch Nails play at the Electric Factory two
nights in a row (5/18-5/19). For me, I'm 4 outta
4 in the fan-fuckin-tastic shows of late. NIN
was freakin' excellent both nights. They played
mostly older stuff and just a few from their new
album, "With Teeth". It was loud, it
was hard, we were sweaty, and it was all worth
enduring the scam of scalpers and ticketmaster
(which some consider to be one in the same). The
energy was just tremendous and flowed freely between
band and audience. Very nice stuff. And, I got
a bonus...the Dresden
Dolls...my new favorite band. The duo opened
for NIN both nights and I just can't describe
how unbelievably fresh their sound is. They're
outta Boston and they have a sound aptly described
as "brechtian punk cabaret." They have
this carnival sort of feel going and feed off
each other well musically, to say the least. They're
sexy, intense, and a whole lotta fun. If you haven't
heard of them, check 'em out ASAP!

Holy
shit! I'm 2 for 2 with live shows. That same friend
of mine, Chris, and I saw Garbage
last night (4/21) at the 9:30 Club and they rocked
the house. Shirley Manson was in great form, beautiful
as ever, hotter than hot, and kicking some serious
ass on stage. Man, I love that chick! Butch Vig
and the rest of the guys were more than on top
of their game as well. I don't have the new album
yet, but it's definitely at the top of my list
to buy.

A
good friend of mine and I saw Queens
of the Stone Age live at the 9:30 Club in Washington,
DC on March 27. Man 'o man, what a freakin' show
they put on! They were fantastically excellent...tight,
interesting live, and great jams...pretty cool effects
too. It's been awhile since I've seen such a musically
tight band and had forgotten how incredible that
makes a live show. In that vein, they reminded me
of Rush back in the mid-eighties, which is definitely
a compliment. If you get the chance to see 'em,
don't let it pass you by!
Talk to me (if you want)! info@futchyou.com
